How to Delete a Yahoo! Mail Folder
Yahoo Mail won't allow you delete folders that are not empty, therefore you must first delete or move any emails out of the folder.
1.       To remove a custom folder from Yahoo! Mail:
2.       Open the folder you want to delete.
3.       Select the check boxes next to each message.
4.       Go to the main toolbar and choose Delete or Move.
5.       When the folder is empty, choose the drop down arrow next to the folder name.
6.       Choose Delete folder.

How to delete a mailbox in Yahoo app

1.       Firstly, click the Menu icon Image of the Sidebar menu icon.
2.       Tap Manage Accounts.
3.       Tap Account info below the Yahoo Mail account that's connected.
4.       Tap the X beside the linked account. <- I assume you did this, and it did not delete.
5.       Tap Unlink to confirm.


Delete Folders Using Yahoo! Mail IMAP
You can also delete folders using Yahoo! Mail IMAP and have them removed from Yahoo! Mail on the web as well as in other email programs connected to the account through IMAP.
·         To delete folders using Yahoo! Mail IMAP:
·         Right-click the folder you want to delete.
·         Select Delete from the menu.

Delete a Folder in Yahoo! Mail Basic
To delete a custom folder from your Yahoo! Mail account using Yahoo! Mail Basic:
1.       Firstly, open the folder you want to delete in Yahoo! Mail Basic.
2.       Move any messages you want to keep.
3.       In the folder list, choose Edit next to My Folders.
4.       Under My Folders, choose Delete next to the folder you want to remove.
5.       Under Delete Folder, select OK.
